Vasant is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 25 years of experience. She has a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Nutrition, Diploma in Dietetics, Masters in Public Health Nutrition, and a PhD in ‘Nutritional Epidemiology”. 

Key skills or areas of expertise

Vasant has skills in nutrition counselling, including engagement and education and extensive clinical experience in nutrition in a range of areas including chronic disease management. She is passionate about improving the quality of life of patients with conditions through dietary changes and advocates to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition in disease prevention and management. She provides evidence-based nutrition care plans tailored to suit individuals taking into account health goals, dietary requirements and preferences that can help improve overall well-being. Her principal research focus is on ’nutrition and ageing’, public health nutrition, dietary education and nutritional epidemiology that explores and the impact of nutritional status on health outcomes of high public health significance such as frailty, sarcopenia and chronic diseases. 

Career focus or passion

Vasant has spent the majority of her career working in the academic field of nutrition, teaching and research in public health nutrition and has published in the area of nutrition and health outcomes in both national and international journals. She continuously keeps up to date with research to provide evidence-based nutrition advice in her private practice roles.  

Her passion lies in making a difference to people’s lives through empowering them to follow tailored dietary and lifestyle advice for long-term wellness and health. She provides comprehensive support for chronic disease management and has experience with a wide-range of patient groups including people with special needs and physical disabilities.
